The government of Bahrain has decided to disband the Bahrain Promotions and Marketing Board (BPMB), the body created five years ago to promote Bahrain as an investment center. To this effect, the Bahraini cabinet approved a memorandum presented by Mohammed Al-Muatwa, the minister of cabinet affairs and information, which will be translated into an official decree.
The BPMB was created in 1993 as an independent government agency. It was chaired by Ali Saleh Al-Saleh, the minister of commerce, and consisted of highly ranked individuals from both the government and private sector.
The BPMB had three primary objectives: to provide a national focus for all public and private sector marketing initiatives; to attract inward investment by promoting awareness of Bahrain's positive business attributes among key international decision-makers; and to encourage the development and expansion of Bahraini export.
According to the draft decree, the functions of the BPMB will now be distributed between the Council of Economic Development and the Ministry of Commerce. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
