The Islamic Banker of the Year award will be announced at the 10th World Islamic Banking Conference starting on December 7, 2003, in Bahrain.
Two other international industry awards that will be presented at the conference this year are Outstanding Contribution to Islamic Banking & Finance and The WIBC Supporter of the Decade.
The Islamic Banker of the Year award was established to recognize good business practice and achievement on the part of key individuals from the world of Islamic banking and finance.
Chairman of Gulf Finance House Fouad Al-Omar walked away with Islamic Banker of the Year in 2001 and Deputy Governor of the Bahrain Monetary Agency Khalid Abdulla Al-Bassam, won the award in 2002.
Renowned figures from within the industry as well as past attendees participate in the voting. Ernst & Young, the auditors for the award, will declare the result at the awards ceremony to be held on December 7. A gala reception hosted by Shamil Bank, the Award sponsors, will follow for all participants and invited guests.
The awards are presented each year under the auspices of the World Islamic Banking Conference, the independent platform for Islamic banking and finance since 1993. The award winners will be distinguished contributors to the expansion, popularization and promotion of Islamic banking.
