The unemployment rate rose to 11.6 per cent during the second quarter of this year compared with 11.4 per cent during the first three months, according to the Department of Statistics (DoS). The report of DoS, released Tuesday, showed that the unemployment rate for the second quarter of this year is less than the same period of 2011 when unemployment was 13.1 per cent. Unemployment rate for 2011 stood at 12.1. Jobless rate among male workers during the March-June period of 2011 was 10.3 per cent while among female workers, was 17.8 per cent, according to DoS results, which emailed to The Jordan Times yesterday. The findings also indicated that the unemployment rate was high among holders of bachelor`s and postgraduate degrees, standing at 14.1 per cent. According to the survey, the illiterate constituted around one per cent of the unemployed workforce and those who did not complete high school represented 46.3 per cent, while those having a high school certificate and above accounted for the remaining 52.7 per cent.
