The National Bank of Kuwait is set to introduce its online shopping card system to Egypt and the United Arab Emirates. NBK's online shopping card system, which was introduced last year, enables users to access and utilize a personal portal where they can shop online in affiliate malls, Gulf News reported.
NBK customers, shoppers can enjoy discounts at amazon.com and pay bills by using Visa cards. The system is expected to create competition for Emirates Telecommunication Corporation's 'ETISALAT', e-purchasing system.
Although NBK General Manager Simon Clements would not comment on whether the e-shopping system is seeking partnership with UAE banks, he disclosed that NBK was pushing for regional and global partnerships to formulate a global network for e-commerce.
"The bank's physical presence is very important to bring nbk.com to a country. Certainly, we are expanding to Egypt and Dubai to get a foothold in the region," Clements commented.
The National Bank of Kuwait was established in 1952 by a group of prominent Kuwaiti merchants and businessmen to help provide the financial services necessary for a rapidly developing economy. With total assets of approximately US $13 billion and equity in excess of US $1billion, the Bank has a physical presence in 10 countries.
The NBK online 'e-mall' is affiliated with Souk Al-Watani international mall, and can be accessed at www.nbk.com .
