The findings of a recently published on-line survey reveal that most Moroccan Internet users are young male university graduates. Moroccan Internet surfers are generally between the ages of 21 and 25, mostly men (70 percent out of the polled sample, while women represent 30 percent) and single (66 percent), the survey found.
Nearly 87 percent of Moroccan Internet users are university students or graduates; 9.4 percent have only secondary school education, shows the survey conducted by IEC Marketing and published by the weekly La Nouvelle Tribune.
Nearly 30 percent of the users devote more than 12 hours a week to Internet surfing, while 50 percent spend more than 8 hours a week surfing. Surfing is mainly taking place in cyber cafés, followed by the workplace and school, the survey found.
Some 80 percent of Moroccan Internet surfers live in the center of the country, while 11 percent live in the south and 9 percent in the north. Casablanca, Morocco's financial center, has the highest concentration of users, followed by the capital Rabat, El-Jadida, Sale and Laayoune.
Regarding e-commerce, 58 percent say they would buy a product or a service off the net, 15 percent would not and 27 percent are not sure.
Roughly 57 percent of Moroccan users find the national sites — reportedly between 400 and 600 — compare poorly to foreign ones. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
