Fujitsu-Siemens Computers has announced it is targeting sales of 20,000 computers in the Moroccan market during the second half of this year. This is part of its new marketing campaign to encourage families to purchase a PC, reports al-Hayat daily. The Japanese-German firm aspires to sell about 3,000 PCs per month until the end of the year.
Fujitsu-Siemens estimates that its current market share in Morocco is 22 percent and it aims at selling roughly $40 million worth of PCs and Internet related accessories this year. The company's manager in Morocco disclosed that sales hit 1,200 PCs in the first two days following the new campaign's launch.
Earlier this month, Siemens signed an agreement with Maroc Telecom and local banks to market its products at prices 20 percent lower than the PCs of its main rivals, Compaq and HP. However, Fujitsu-Siemens is to face stiff competition from IBM and Microsoft. These two companies have each offered a new attractive package for Moroccan families in monthly payments of MD200-500 and free internet access through the services provided by France Telecom's branch in Morocco.
Meanwhile, the Moroccan government predicts that the number of Internet users will rise to 200,000 by the end of this year. (albawaba.com staff)
