As of the end of April 1999, non-Jordanian (foreigners and Arab) investment deals at Amman Financial Market (AFM) for the year so far totaled $35.7 million (22.3 percent of total trade volume). The value of shares sold by non-Jordanian last month reached $32.3 million. Net investments by non-Jordanians by the end of the first third of 2000 hit $3.38 million, Al-Sharq Al-Awsat Daily reports. This figure represents a substantial drop compared to the figure of the corresponding period of 1999, when net investments totaled $18.2 million.
According to Jalil Tarif, AFM Manager, the total value of stocks purchased by Arab investors reached JD 20.8 million, approximately 82 percent of total acquisitions by non-Jordanians since the beginning of 2000. Arab investors' sales totaled JD12.7 million. (JD1=$1.4)
