Oman has extended a census on family income and spending to May 2002 to give census workers time to do a through job. The extension will insure that all families will be included in the census, so that a realistic projection of family income and spending is reached.
The census will help planners, researchers, and decision-makers on all levels concerning the family sector. The census will help in determining the current demand on goods and services and help in future planning to satisfy those demands. It would also help to determine the need for housing units. The census would registered changes in the national economy due to outside influences and would help educate Omani families on spending and savings methods. It may also help families produce their own products and become self-sufficient.
The ministry hopes the census will provide a base of information on the standard of living of Omani families and on consumption rates and spending trends that the ministry hopes would be used in calculating the national income. The information will also be used for economic and social planning. –(Albawaba-MEBG)
