The performance of Oman’s commercial sector is coming under the magnifying glass as apart of a plan by the sultanate’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry to formulate a 10-year master plan, designed to optimize the effectiveness of the sector, reported the Oman daily Observer.
According to Rashid Salem al-Masroori, the director general of commerce, the project will identify the competitiveness, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of the sector, and then delineate a long-term strategy for the future.
The ministry has already worked out the terms of reference for the project. Al-Massori said the plan itself is expected to be ready in 2001. “The plan is meant for the interest of the business community and for the benefit of the people, so their views are most welcome. We appreciate any feedback, comments or suggestions from the people”, he told the Oman Daily Observer. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
