The Yemen government has signed a $60 million agreement with a consortium led by the U.S.-based Adair International Oil and Gas to construct a 21-megawatt power generation plant and a sugar refinery in the Aden Free Zone.
Once complete, the sugar refinery will have an annual capacity of 200,000 tons.
According to the Aden Free Zone Authority, work on the two plants will begin in six month and will be complete in mid-2003. They are being built as part of a $500-million plan to develop an industrial and storage base linked to Aden's port and container terminal.
The Adair consortium also includes Arkel International of the United States, and Al-Jalla, a Yemeni company. – (Albawaba-MEBG)
