The Community Development Authority (CDA) in Dubai has launched two inspiring books by El Kayt members, Zainab Abdulhameed Al Teneiji and Mohammed Rashed Al Ghafli, in cooperation with Kuttab Publishing House, on the sidelines of Sharjah International Book Fair, being held until November 17, 2012.
Ahmed Al Muheiri CEO Programs and Social services sector said : “These books are based on real life success stories of two “El Kayt members, and highlight their determination and persistence to overcome disability to achieve solid personal accomplishments. Publishing the books reflects the commitment of CDA to demonstrate the personal triumphs of people with disabilities and inspire other members, and integrate them into society by providing an excellent network of care.”
“Our El Kayt Programme not only works towards creating job opportunities for people with disabilities but also focuses on training them and developing their skills to take up rewarding professions. The programme also provides consultancy for families, individuals and recruitment consultants, to encourage them to support people with disabilities and thus strengthen the social fabric of the community.”
Jamal Al Shihi CEO of Al Kuttab Publishing thanked CDA for its efforts to support the community, and congratulated the Authority’s initiative to launch these books. He expressed his optimism that the two writers would serve as inspiring models, especially amongst people with disabilities.
Zainab Abdulhameed Al Teneiji is currently employed by Paris Gallery where she tends to office tasks at their main headquarters. Mohammed Rashed Al Ghafli is working at CDA in the Marketing and Corporate Communications Department. He has a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications from the Sharjah University.
Al Ghafli’s book “Another Taste of Life’ reflects his success story in overcoming disability, and how to exercise a balanced personal and professional life. Al Teneiji’s book, “Colours of Life” speaks about her challenging journey with autism, and focused on her mother’s efforts who played a big role in integrating her in the society.
“CDA will distribute the books among various organisations concerned, including special needs centres, as part of creating awareness on social empowerment and inclusion. The books will also be sold in the market with five per cent of the revenues going into social care initiatives for persons with disabilities.” said Dr. Bushra Al Mulla, Director of Disability services at CDA.
The El Kayt Programme aims to positively change the lives of people with disabilities by empowering them to find meaningful employment and advance in their chosen careers. The CDA initiative helps young Emiratis – both male and female – in overcoming their disabilities and contributing to national development as valuable members of the community.
