The National Health Insurance Company - Daman, is launching a campaign designed to drive awareness of Breast Cancer during October, international Breast Cancer Awareness month.
Daman’s campaign, launching today, kicks off with a specially dedicated area of the website containing facts, figures, a guide on how to self-examine and details on where to find further information. Free mammography screenings will be offered to women over 40 in the capital on the 3rd, 5th and 6th of October and in Al Ain on the 8th.
Dr. Alfons Grabosch, Health Support Manager said, “Daman has always been committed to promoting awareness of breast cancer; what to look for and where to go to for information. In keeping with this, the theme for this year’s campaign is the importance of self-examination. Even though the majority of women are aware of the importance of regular screenings, many are unaware of how to perform a self-examination at home.”
“Recent World Health Organisation statistics state that early detection and treatment can reduce breast cancer related deaths by up to a third. Education and screening have been identified as the top two recommended tools for early detection.” Dr. Grabosch concluded.
Whilst UK-based charity, Cancer Research UK, recently announced it predicted death rates from breast cancer to fall by 28 per cent by 2030; a report released by the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi, stated that breast cancer still accounted for 27 per cent of all female cancer-related deaths in Abu Dhabi last year.
