Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Economic Sector Committee in Dubai, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, the Department of Economic Development (DED) launched a new book on performance benchmarks and best practices.
The book, "Dubai Quality Award Winning Practices," was launched on the sidelines of the “Share Best Practice 2011” conference. The book outlines the best practices of the winners of the Business Excellence Awards in 2010, and includes details of the winning entries, enabling potential applicants to get an insight into the benefits of applying for the awards.
The annual full-day conference, which was held at InterContinental Festival City, provided the winners of the 2010 Business Excellence Awards with a platform to share best practices in quality management with different organisations.
Mr Ali Ibrahim, Deputy Director General for Planning and Development in DED, said: “Winners of the Dubai Excellence Awards have proved to us and to the business sector that fostering a culture of excellence is one of the main components in any successful journey. This success has inspired the business sector to achieve more milestones and has added to the overall growth of Dubai”.

We will remain committed to our basic ideals of creating a robust economic environment that promotes innovation, boosts creativity and inspires businesses to further grow and prosper. The Dubai Business Excellence Awards, including the recently launched ‘Investors in People UAE' award, will play a key role in this journey," added Mr Ali.
Mohammed Juma Bushnain Al Amri, Executive Director of Corporate Quality and Management Excellence at DED, said: “There is no doubt that the Share Best Practice 2011 conference, organized in parallel with the launch of the "Dubai Quality Award Winning Practices” report, enhances the competitive role that Dubai plays in the business sector and contributes in promoting the emirate as the ideal investment hub in the region. Such initiatives motivate us to be more active in implementing the highest quality standards in service offerings.”
Graham Elder, Learning and Organisation Development Consultant at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, and Dr Milton Krivokuca, Instructor of Quality Classes at California State University Dominguez Hills, addressed the conference. They shed light on the importance of adopting a culture of excellence and innovation that will positively reflect on performance and customer satisfaction, and on providing better services to customers according to global best practices.
The total number of organisations that have registered and trained for the Business Excellence Awards now stands at more than 4,000, while the number of members in the Dubai Service Excellence Scheme has more than doubled to about 1,400 since its inception. The Dubai Human Development Awards has also grown, with the number of applicants nearly doubling since 2010. Since 1994, DED has trained more than 1,500 quality assessors who work strenuously to uphold and enhance the standards of quality and excellence in Dubai’s business environment.
The Business Excellence Department at DED distributed a book at the conference outlining the best practices submitted by the winners of the Business Excellence Awards in 2010. The book included details of the winning entries, enabling potential applicants to get an insight into the benefits of applying for the awards. An exhibition for DED and its agencies was also held alongside the conference.
