Six HCT-Dubai, Women’s Campus, Network Engineering final-year students made a trip to Kenya to execute a project to connect a wireless Internet network within an academic Institute in one of the poor villages there.
This project provided the students with an opportunity to practice the skills and concepts that they had learned in college in a real environment, and it also helped them gain professional development skills in teamwork and interact with people from different nationalities, which supports their self-confidence and their ability to work as a team.
Dr. Nasser Nassiri, Chair of the Computer Science and Information Department at HCT-Dubai-Women’s Campus said, "The trip to Kenya provided our students with useful international work experience in a real working environment. The project was based on using the disposed equipment to assist Kenyan students to be connected with others through the internet"
Zahoor Bet, Network Engineering Faculty member at HCT-Dub, Women’s Campus, said "The energy, motivation and commitment level of all the students for this entire project and the tour was very impressive; my student's worked not only by hands but also with their hearts".
Mariam Al-Shehhi , Team Leader of the students who went to Kenya, said: "College has donated 20 laptops, and 10 wireless devices, and we, the students updated six computers by adding software programs such as new windows, Office, Java, and others, and we draw a typical chart for the network that we have executed.
The Project centered on connecting wireless Internet network within an Institute in one of the poor villages in Kenya, which did not have the ability to execute this network, the project comes within the college projects and in collaboration with Cisco Company.
Student Rawda Al- Baluchi said: " I gained a great experience from traveling outside the country, it has many positives mostly is due to the quality of education that we have learned in college, as we can now rely on ourselves and face difficult challenges in a multicultural environment and try to solve and overcome it in a real environment as we got a chance to be honorably ambassadors to our beloved country."
