Khalaf Al Habtoor, the Chairman of the Al Habtoor Group, received the Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Miasnikovich, at his home on Al Wasl Road, Dubai on Friday, February 24, 2012.
A dinner was thrown in honour of the Belarusian Prime Minister who is currently visiting the United Arab Emirates.
Miasnikovich was appointed Prime Minister of Belarus by President Alexander Lukashenko, in 2010. Prior to that, from 2001 to 2010, he was Chairman of the National Academy of Sciences in Minsk. With a PhD in economics and having worked as an engineer in the construction industry, Miasnikovich was eager to discuss investment opportunities in his home country especially in the infrastructure sector.
The two men talked about the relationship between Belarus and the UAE and discussed ways in which the Al Habtoor Group and the Belarusian government could possibly work together on development projects in Minsk.
Al Habtoor was invited to visit the Belarusian Capital by the Prime Minister. “I would love to visit your country, I have heard it is very beautiful and I am most interested in exploring business opportunities that it might offer,” said Al Habtoor.
Also present at the dinner was the Belarusian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Dr Aleksandr Semeshko, as well as a number of Al Habtoor’s family members - his brother Sultan Al Habtoor; and his sons, Rashid, Mohammed and Ahmad Al Habtoor.
“I feel very happy and honoured to meet your family and to be invited to this personal gathering in your home” Miasnikovich said to Al Habtoor.
The Prime Minister also expressed an interest in watching Al Habtoor’s two eldest sons Rashid and Mohammed play polo. He subsequently attended the opening polo matches of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup 2012 which were played on February 25, 2012; sand supported the two teams Mahra Polo, patroned by Rashid Al Habtoor, and Mohammed Al Habtoor’s team - Habtoor Polo.
