The Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) once again hosted its popular Maritime Parade to commemorate the UAE National Day on 2nd December.
Taking place for the fifth consecutive year, the parade saw the participation of more than 6,000 people of various nationalities, all celebrating the beauty and heritage of the UAE.
This year’s event included a variety of traditional marine boats, yachts, pleasure boats, Sharjah Police boats and Coast Guard boats. The convoy set off from the Sharjah Maritime Museum Anchor at 3:00pm, after which it headed to Al Qasba, Khalid Lagoon and Flag Island before returning to its starting point.
The parade was complemented by an assortment of musical performances, including renditions of the UAE’s beloved national anthem and other traditional songs, as well as a marine band performing various maritime songs.
Commenting on the event Manal Ataya, Director General Sharjah Museums Department, said, “This spectacular event, which is organised by SMD annually, again paid tribute to the heritage of our great nation and we are delighted by the turnout and success of this year’s parade. The sense of community spirit fostered by the 42nd National Day celebrations was extraordinary, and on behalf of SMD I would like to thank everyone involved for their generous support.”
SMD’s Maritime Parade has become a highlight on the annual calendar, and will serve as a fitting conclusion to the department’s extensive 42nd National Day celebratory programme, which kicked off on 27 November.
