Qatar said Tuesday, February 27, that the World Trade Organization (WTO) conference scheduled to be held in Doha in November would be a success.
"Qatar wants to ensure all the conditions required for the holding of the upcoming ministerial conference, and it is in a position to ensure its success," Qatar's Finance Minister Yussif Hussein Kamal said.
Kamal was speaking during a meeting with a WTO delegation in Doha to inspect facilities and list requirements for the holding of the ministerial conference November 9-13.
The planned hosting of the WTO ministerial meeting in Qatar has already proved controversial as the Gulf state has strict laws on public assembly.
But WTO director general Mike Moore said last month that protestors will be free to peacefully oppose globalization during the meeting. Qatari authorities have also vowed to permit law-abiding protests. — (AFP, Doha)
