The Siemens Power Generation Group (PG) has secured orders for the turnkey construction of two power plants in Qatar and Dubai. Purchaser of the plant in Qatar is a consortium comprising Qatar Electricity & Water Company, International Power and Chubu Electric Power. The order from Dubai was placed by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). Siemens PG is also to supply key components for the El Kureimat gas turbine power plant in Egypt.
As consortium leader Siemens PG together with its partner Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co. Ltd. is to build the Ras Laffan B combined-cycle power plant in Qatar. The Siemens PG scope of supply encompasses three SGT5-4000F (previously called V94.3A) gas turbines, two steam turbines, and the associated electrical, and instrumentation and control equipment. After the start of commercial operation in May 2008, the plant will have an installed capacity of approximately 1000 MW and the seawater desalination plant supplied by Doosan will then produce approximately 27,500 cubic meters of drinking water daily.
Siemens PG is also to supply three SGT5-2000E (previously called V94.2) gas turbines including the instrumentation and control equipment for a gas turbine power plant in Dubai. It will also handle installation and commissioning. After the start of commercial operation in early 2007, the plant will have an installed capacity of 400 MW.
For the El Kureimat power plant located 90 kilometers south of Cairo, Egypt, Siemens PG is to supply two SGT5-4000F gas turbines. Siemens is also to provide the plant's auxiliary systems. Purchasers are Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) and Upper Egypt Electricity Production Company.
"Ras Laffan is the first turnkey order for Siemens PG from fast-developing Qatar," stated Klaus Voges, President of Siemens Power Generation. "Together with the successes in Dubai and Egypt we have thus succeeded in further consolidating our leading market position in the Middle East and Egypt." After Nubaria and Talkha, El Kureimat is the third order that Siemens PG has posted in Egypt within a short period.
