Algerian state owned oil and gas company Sonatrach recorded $18.5 billion in crude oil revenues in 2001, compared to $19.6 billion in the previous year. The company produced 202 million tons of oil last year, with foreign partner production increasing by 9.2 million tons, reported KUNA.
Sonatrach produced 43 million cubic meters of liquefied natural gas over the course of 2001, a five percent decrease compared with figures from the previous year. The company attributed the losses to weather that affected navigation as well as the September 11 attacks on the United States.
Established in 1963, Sonatrach was the first oil company in the Mediterranean. It is now the fourth largest exporter of natural gas and the second largest of exporter of LPG in the world. The company is active in both upstream and downstream oil and gas industries. It is responsible for exploration and production, transport, refining, processing, marketing and distribution. — (menareport.com)
