Sharjah’s Economics’ Development Department confirmed its strong support for the economic alliance between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Republic of Sudan in order to seize all development opportunities available.
“Trade is constantly growing between the UAE and Sudan from 185 million Sudanese dinars in 1997 to SD 494 million in 2001. We are look forward to the increase of those numbers in the near future,” said Chairman of the Sharjah Department Sheikh Tariq.
“Sudan has the capacity for tremendous development. In addition to its large geographical area- which is 2.5 million square kilometers within the African continent- its agricultural and oil resources can provide the Sudanese economy with the strength and stability necessary to increase Sudan’s current growth average of 5.5 percent,” Tariq added.
These comments came during Tariq’s reception of the Sudanese investment minister Ahmed Omar Badr. Discussion revolved economic partnership opportunities between the two countries. During the meeting other economic issues related to both sides were discussed such as plans to open a permanent exhibition to promote local UAE products in Sudan through Sharjah’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
“Sudatel is undergoing a good growth average. Etisalat’s nine percent share in the firm as well as its excellent reputation- is aiding in increasing Emarati investors’ trust,” Al-Qasimi said. — (menareport.com)
