Turkey will not refuse [from] importing Iranian gas,  despite the tightening U.S. sanctions against Iran, the Sabah newspaper quotes Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan as saying on Tuesday."Iran is the second major supplier of gas to Turkey after Russia. Turkey does not intend to refuse from the Iranian gas because of the sanctions of the certain country [the U.S.]," Erdogan said.Issue of Iranian gas imports into Turkey is a strategic, Erdogan said.It should be noted that Turkey annually imports 8 million tons of oil and 8 billion cubic meters of gas from Iran. In 1996, Iran and Turkey signed an agreement to supply 10 billion cubic meters of gas to Turkey annually (30 million cubic meters per day).According to the statistic data of the Turkish State Pipeline Company Botas, Turkey imported 39.7 billion cubic meters of gas from Iran in 2011. Russia ranks first, followed by Iran and Azerbaijan among exporters of gas to Turkey.
