Turkey’s trade deficit rose 106.9 percent year-on-year to $17.023 billion (19.7 billion euros) in the first eight months of the year, the state statistics institute said Monday.
Imports climbed 37.9 percent to $34.741 billion over the same period, it said. Exports meanwhile edged up just 4.4 percent to $17.718 billion.
The falling value of the euro against the dollar was a major factor for Turkey, which exports some 50 percent of its exports to European Union countries. — (AFP, Ankara)
