Companies in the United Arab Emirates looking to import or export goods from the Chinese province of Guangzhou can now do so directly, rather than via Hong Kong, following the signing of and agreement between Emirates SkyCargo and the Hong Kong Airport Cargo Terminal.
According to the agreement, Hong Kong Airport Cargo Terminal will participate in a new bonded trucking service, called Superlink China Direct, which will provide a rapid connection between Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok Airport and Guangzhou's Baiyun Airport, about 182 km away. In this way, transfers that previously took days to complete can now be completed within hours.
Up until now, shipments from the UAE to Guangzhou were sent to Hong Kong, processed and then forwarded separately to Guangzhou, going through customs checks both in Hong Kong and Guangzhou. However, with bonded trucks goods consigned for Guangzhou can be transferred there immediately, and customs procedures will only be enforced at the final destination. —(Albawaba-MEBG)
