A task force has been appointed to deliberate on key issues to achieve sustainable development in the UAE , the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced on Wednesday.
The team, which will go into action in early June, has begun to draw up a strategy aiming at boosting the ministry’s contributions to environmental and societal work as a top priority, along with spreading awareness among youngsters to protect and preserve their environment.
Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, said the team has embarked on setting out mechanisms and guidelines to engage in environmental and societal initiatives.
“We all want to preserve and protect our environment, yet we are either too busy or too lazy to make a huge difference that will improve our lifestyle and save our planet.
“Therefore, the ministry has planned and conducted several competitions and awareness programmes that will take place in different universities and students will be provided with all the tools and information to participate in the protection of the environment,” said Saif Al Mazroui, assistant undersecretary for institutional and support services at the ministry.
“Students will learn how to protect the environment by saving water, reducing and recycling paper, and making sure that lights and air conditioners are used wisely especially during summer,” he added.
The ministry is also putting in place a plan for adherence to green implementation criteria accredited by the Council of Ministers Office which will go into force in early June.
The ministry’s efforts are in line with the vision of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the protection of the environment and achievement of sustainable development in the UAE.
