Something new is cookin' in Dubai next month with the launch of the Middle East Veg Group (MEVEG) Congress in conjunction with the Middle East Natural and Organic Products Exhibition at the Dubai World Trade Centre, according to Emirates 24/7.
In a region where meat is considered a central part of the diet (and even eating chicken or fish is considered by some to be "vegetarian"), MEVEG's mission to encourage not just vegetarian-but also vegan-living in the Middle East seems to present itself as both a challenge as well as a welcomed new approach to "healthy living."
According to Emirates 24/7, MEVEG's aim is "[to provide a] focus and support group promoting increased consumption of plant-based foods for better health and sustainability." According to the organization's founder, Sandhya Prakash, the congress is designed to "educate attendees about the current industry trends in the Middle East [and the] options they have to [live] a vegan lifestyle."
MEVEG-goers can prepare their plant-eating pearly-whites for the launch of the congress and the Middle East Natural & Organics Products Exhibition at the Dubai World Trade Centre set on December 3rd.
