A three-year old Saudi girl was raped on Monday by several men. After taking turns raping her, they dumped her body near a hospital. She is currently alive but in serious condition.
Police said that they have arrested three suspects and two women and more may be arrested in connection with the rape.
Doctors reported that the child was found crying and in serious condition in front of the hospital in Jeddah. They also shared that she was still in intensive care struggling for her life, reports Emirates 24/7.
“She has been raped violently by some men. She was found crying of excruciating pain as her body was full of bruises and her sensitive parts were ruptured,” hospital manager Mohammed Ali said, quoted by the Saudi Arabic language daily Okaz.
“These are human wolves and worse than animals. They have violated all human and religious values with this heinous crime. We hope she will respond to treatment and recover. Should she recover, doctors believe she will suffer from a trauma for the rest of her life.”
Saudi Arabia has ranked four out of five, five being the worst number, on the International Rape Scale provided by “Women’s Stats” . Surprisingly, due to its conservative reputation, one would think women and children would be safer in Saudi but the statistics prove otherwise.
Regarding children specifically in a University study, reports show that child rape, specifically incest, is high in numbers .
“Over 23% of Muslim children have been raped (1/4 of the entire population). For 62% of those, the rape was never reported. This was because it was one of the victim’s relatives.”
Unfortunately, the report also stated that this is not new information. Currently, “Representing Children Worldwide”, a survey done at Harvard Law School, is the only somewhat recent statistical source on child law in Saudi Arabia.
“We were unable to find any statutory provisions that speak to Saudi Arabia's implementation of Article 12 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) with respect to the child's right to be heard in child protective proceedings. Additionally, we have been unable to find any laws detailing the existence and procedures of a child protective system.”
Earlier this month a Saudi preacher was arrested and sentenced for beating, raping and killing his five year old daughter . He is currently serving a sentence of only eight years after paying blood money to the child’s mother.
“Under Saudi laws, the mother had the right to ask for blood money instead of the death penalty for the defendant.”
