A new play by Palestinian actor Abdel Rahman Abul Qassem, The House of the Feast, shows the sorrows and strengths of the residents of Palestinian refugee camps.
The play is being called a rebirth of the Palestinian theatre, following a long stagnation.
Abul Qassem told the Syria Times that it was time for the Palestinian theatre to resume its activities through objective texts that expressed the sentiments of the Arab and Palestinian people.
He added that the timing of the performance was very important, “as we live through the escalation of the Intifada activities in confrontation with the savagery and atrocities perpetrated by the Israeli occupation troops, who don't distinguish between a child, a woman or a baby, who demolish houses and uproot fruitful trees. They are trying to wipe out our history and civilization by all means.”
The play deals with the story of an instructor who teaches history, geography, chemistry and math.
But the teacher joins the ranks of fighters in the occupied Arab territories. We see him in the streets of a Palestinian refugee camp, in which pictures of martyrs are stuck to the walls along with resistance slogans.
