Egyptian director Radwan Al Kashef announced on Wednesday that he would participate in the formal contest at the Damascus Film Festival with his new film Al Saher (Magician).
Dismissing rumors that he had refused to participate in the competition at the Cairo Film Festival, Kashef told AFP that the film wouldn’t be ready on the new date set for the Cairo festival, October 7.
“There is no reason that prevents me from participating in the Cairo festival, in view of the fact that the festival will celebrate its silver anniversary, which is a special occasion for Egyptian and Arab cinema,” added Kashef.
“My participation in the Damascus festival comes only due to good timing, which coincides with wrapping up preparations for the film,” the director said.
In addition to Al Saher, Egypt will participate in the festival with the films Baheb Al Cinema (I Like Cinema), directed by Osama Fawzi and costarring Laila Olwi and Mahmoud Hemeidah.
Costarring in Al Saher are Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, Salwa Khattab, Jamil Rateb, Sami Sarhan and the new actress Mennatullah Shalabi.
In the film, Abdel Aziz plays the role of a man who tries to bring pleasure to a certain class within Egyptian society that suffers from neglect and deprivation - Albawaba.com
