It's been a long and windy road to the third season of the AGT finals: and the trip has been chock full of the usual ingredients of bad judge jokes, bad audtions, big breath-holding, dodgy decisions and drama! But D-Day finally came and went and we have a winner and it's a Syrian outfit no less!
Syrian dance troupe “Sima” were crowned winners of Arabs Got Talent 2013 in last night's hotly-anticipated finale, leaving touted talents American Jennifer Grout and Palestinian Mohammad Al Deeri pipped to the post as runners up to the underdogs.
Millions tuned in to see who, after weeks of fierce competition, would be deemed worthy of the coveteted AGT title. Covered in colorful confetti, the young dancers jumped up and down unable to contain their joy when announced winners of the popular talent show.
Although Jennifer mastered yet another Arabic song it was not enough to earn her the Arabic title. But Sima wowed the crowds and judges with their spectacular final routine , which spoke to the Arab Spring and the struggles playing out in politics between old leaders and 'rebels' in the corrupted parts of the Arab region. They really made a song and dance about it!
As 'democratically elected' winners, “Sima” will receive the grand prize of 500,000 Saudi Riyals (133, 333 USD) and a brand new Chrysler 300 as well as a contract with MBC. Not a bad day's work to cap a season of dance routines to keep the voters voting.
Congrats guys! We can't wait for next year's show-down now. But we'll have to stick to The Voice and Idol to keep us going till then...
