Syrian [2] artist Bassem al-Sayer takes his inspiration from the banks of the Euphrates river, where he was born and where he has chosen to live.
Al-Sayer has been influenced by the legacy of the Mesopotamian era, one that was rich in culture and art.“When I was a child, my eyes were always glued on the ornamentations and engravings inscribed on the arches and drawings on the walls” he said, describing his hometown. The image of towering temples, Babylonian [3]birds with cloud sized wings and busting crowds make constant appearances in al-Sayer’s workThe artist has chosen to depict life in a different era, his work could easily be mistaken for ancient wall paintings portraying chalky figures as they engage in, what seem to be, mass celebrations.Al-Sayer enjoys the use of organic colors, choosing red and brown over the vast array of paint available to a modern artist, he believes it represents the earth in its most natural form.To read more and view Bassem al-Sayer’s art please follow the link: http://enawafeth.alarabiya.net/content/al-sayer-harps-his-mesopotamian-figures-mantra [4]
