Chairman of the International Cairo Film Festival, actor Hussein Fahmi announced that the festival will donate a whole days worth of proceeds to the “children and martyrs of the Palestinian Intifada.”
According to Agence France Presse, Fahmi said the move came “in light of Egyptian artists’ insistence that their three unions (Film, Actors and Musicians) show complete support with the Palestinian people and the Intifada.”
Fahmy went on to describe these actions as “sure to affect and influence the local and general Arab attitude towards the Palestinian people.”
Meanwhile, the festival has been very active in its support for martyrs of the recent Palestinian uprising.
Administrators have already set up a special time slot for the honoring of the martyrs.
The festival’s management has also integrated the an image of the Jerusalem ‘Al Aqsa’ mosque to this year’s poster.
Despite warnings from the US film industry to withdraw their participating film from the official contest, the festival went through with showing two pro-Palestinian films.
