A new banner was designed for the 26th Cairo International Film Festival to be held October 15. The banner symbolizes the idea of ‘cultural dialogue’.
“The upcoming session of the Cairo festival is intended to be an opportunity to discuss the current world question: ‘is it a cultural struggle or a dialogue between civilizations’. The festival will be a means to activate communication between various cultures, specially in the cinematic field,” the new head of the festival, Sherif al Shubashi, told the Egyptian daily Al Ahram.
He added, “the new banner, which was designed by Khaled Mehrez, a professor of design at the faculty of fine arts at Helwan University, implies a formal element that reflects these concepts and indications. The sun is the main subject as it is considered a world fact and a cultural, artistic and religious inspiration for most of ancient and modern civilizations.”
Later, Shubashi reiterated the necessity for diversification of the films participating in the festival. “Films should not be limited to the US and Europe, we have to pay more attention to the Asian, Latin American and Arab cinema,” the festival head said – Albawaba.com
