The Townhouse Library and Art Gallery will celebrate on 5 January the end of a two-year Workshop Series in which four prominent artists and activists led participants on an exploratory journey, probing the changing definitions of freedom of expression, human rights, with arts and culture as a platform for political engagement.
The Workshop Series was led by writer Yasser Gerab, visual artist Huda Lutfi , filmmaker Tamer Abdul Hamid and activist Bakr, spanning across 2011 and 2012.
Participants debated volatile topics in post-revolutionary Egypt such as freedom of expression, human rights, and the construction of historical narratives.
The four workshop leaders will be joined at the event by participants and special guest speakers to unveil the fruit of almost two years worth of discussions.
The First Floor Gallery of the Townhouse will also showcase reference materials, images, films, texts and performances that were used and produced during the workshop.
