Egyptian Film Week Dazzles Baghdad

Baghdad is witnessing an entire week of Egyptian films for the first time in more than 15 years, according to the daily Al Ahram. 

The film fest is being organized by the Iraqi Cinema and Theater Department in cooperation with the Egyptian embassy in Baghdad.  

The Iraqi News Agency quoted the head of the department, Riyad Shahid, as saying, “this week is considered to mark a new step to activate Iraqi-Egyptian cultural and artistic cooperation.” 

The cinema week started on Saturday with the screening of the film Fares Al Madina (The City Knight), written and directed by Mohammed Khan, and costarring Mahmoud Hamida and Pusy. 

The second was Dehk wa Lea’b wa Gad wa Hobb (Laughing, Playing, Work and Love), written and directed by Tareq Al Talmasani and costarring Omar Sharif, Yusra and Hanan Tork. The film depicts social and political life in Cairo during the 1960s.  

On Monday, the event included the film Emraa Ayila Lil Suqout (A Woman on the Way to Falling), based on the American film Bonnie and Clyde, written and directed by Medhat Al Sebaa’i and costarring Yusra and Mahmoud Hamida. 

The film Lia’adam Kifayat Al Adella (Enough Evidences Is Not Available), written and directed by Ashraf Fahmi and costarring Salah Al Saadani and Naglaa Fathi, was screened on Tuesday.
