Father Yousef Mazloom, the head of the Catholic Center in Cairo, has nominated Egyptian movie ‘Asrar al Banat” (Girls’ Secret) to participate in the upcoming American Oscar awards, according to al Rayah newspaper.
“‘Asrar al Banat’ (directed by Magdi Ahmed) was screened in several American States, and participated in many international festivals in the US, in addition to other festivals in Valencia, Beirut and Rotterdam,” Father Mazloom said. Adding that the movie has received many awards and holds all necessary conditions to participate in the Oscar awards contest in the Foreign Movie category.
The Golden Jubilee Egyptian Catholic Film Festival has given the young star of “Asrar al Banat”, actress Maya Shiha, a special appreciation certificate for her debut in the movie, in which she embodied the various human and psychological changes during adolescence.
The production company is working on a Dolby Digital copy for the movie to be made and sent to the Oscar committee in the US on time. The company wants to avoid repeating the scenario that happened to “Ard al Khawf” (Land of Fear) movie last year.
Last year, “Ard al Khawf” was deprived from competing in the Oscar awards contest because of the backwardness and the chaotic way the production company has dealt with. Egyptian Daoud Abdul Sayyed, director of “Ard al Khawf”, has accused the production company of his movie saying that “the company neglected the nomination of my film by the Oscar committee and did not meet the basic condition for the contest by screening the film commercially in the US.”
