Poor Hannan Turk is always upsetting somebody with her religious garb. First it was her fans who launched a Facebook campaign for her to remove the hijab and now fundamentalists can't stand her wearing a nun's habit.
The actress has been receiving death threats for playing Sister Teresa in new TV drama of the same name. In fact the whole cast are in danger, according to the threatening text messages Hannan has received. Co-star Ahmed Azmi is not immune to Islamist rage either: his car was vandalized once posters of the new drama were launched showing Hannan wearing a nun's habit .
Confusing 'acting' with 'being', Islamists launched 'Boycott Hannan' campaigns online, particularly after she announced that she had carefully studied all the important details of being an Orthodox nun in order to make herself more convincing in the role.
Perhaps it will help campaigners to know that Hannan also plays the role of 'Khadija' in the same drama - Sister Teresa's long lost twin - who grew up in a Muslim home.
For her part, Hannan was shocked by all the negative attacks and said before accepting the role of a Christian, she sought the advice of a Muslim Clerk, who had assured her that it was not a sin.
