Madonna says she was an emotional "mess" during her tour last year, which included two nights in Abu Dhabi.
The 54-year-old popstar loves performing for fans all over the world, but she admits her 'MDNA' tour took a toll on her and she regularly burst into tears due to exhaustion.
However, Madonna says she believes it helped her to put on better shows.
The mother-of-four told the New York Post's Page Six at a screening of her new concert film, 'The MDNA Tour': "I was a mess. I would have my bad nights, and I would cry and I would say I don't want to do this. Before every show, everyone came into my dressing room and... said prayers, and 50 per cent of the time I said them, and 49 per cent of the time I was crying, usually from over-exhaustion. But there's something about pushing yourself."
Some fans who attended the Abu Dhabi gigs complained that Madonna came on stage too late.
At the time, the firm behind concerts, FLASH Entertainment, said this was due to “a series of unforeseen technical issues” that “resulted in slight delays to rehearsals and performance times”
Madonna wrapped up the tour in late December in Cordoba, Argentina, after performing 88 sold out shows in front of 2.2 million fans worldwide.
The tour grossed more than $305 million and was named the highest grossing tour of 2012.
Madonna was also honoured with the Top Touring Artist award at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards last month.
