The board of trustees of the Suez International Comedy Film Festival held a meeting in which they decided to appoint the comedy star Mohammed Sobhi as the head of the festival first session, according to the daily al Ahram.
The committee met to prepare for the first session of the festival to be held next October, as part of the national celebrations of the Egyptian city of Suez under the sponsorship of the ministry of culture.
Last year, the festival was held during the period between October 24-30, but without a formal contest as the Egyptian Society for Cinema Writers and Critics decided to hold it as a founding event.
The 2001 founding session was dedicated to late comedian Ismail Yasin. Also, the annual award for best comedian was named after Yasin.
The Egyptian comedy star Adel Imam was honored at the opening ceremony of the fest, and Syrian comedian Durid Lahham was honored at the closing ceremony.
During the last year festival, headed by the famous writer Mahfouz Abdel Rahman, many important Egyptian and foreign comedy films were screened, with the attendance of a number of Arab comedy stars – Albawaba.com
