Prominent Egyptian actress Nabila Obeid says that she refuses to be used as a “promotional product” by filmmakers that want to take advantage of her. Nabila has expressed her willingness star in Moroccan, Algerian and Tunisian films, if the role offered suits her and adds to her prestigious history.
“I cannot accept a role in a film , just so the filmmakers can profit from using my name,” says Nabila. She was ademant that she not be mistaken for being just a commodity.
According to the internet website MBC.net, Nabila said she would be honored to take part in non-Egyptian films, as long as the role is suitable and she would be able to reach a wide range of fans.
Nabila said that she does not fear entering the Algerian, Moroccan and Tunisian film industry as long as ethics and principles are present in such films.
With regard to the lack of screening of films from northern African countries in Egypt, Nabila said there is a fear that Egyptian audiences will not accept such films and screening requires extra effort on the part of distributors. However, a number of Egyptian television channels have begun introducing films from around the Arab world to Egyptian viewers to familiarize them with other cultures, she added.
