The Palestinian play Qisas Taht Al Ehtilal (stories under occupation) performed by the Qasaba Theatre Troupe of Ramallah, won the best play award at the Cairo International Experimental Theater Festival, according to Arabic daily Al Sharq Al Awsat.
The Tunisian actor Al Munsef Al Saiem won the best actor award for the play Al Munshar Al Haer (the Confused Sow).
The Spanish Charow Sojo won the prize for the best actress for her role in the play Electra, while the Austrian director Adena Brown won the prize for best director for the play Al Shumoose Al Janibuyyah. The Polish play Carmen Fonberry won the prize for the best play technology.
Critics and audience welcomed the Palestinian winning as the play went far beyond the political hindrances and offered a mature artwork that included the proper art wording. The director attempted with proficiency to make the optimal use of the scarce resources available to him by using the least possible tools supported by a high standard acting performance.
The play portrays a number of improvised performances, which interact with the miserable circumstances, which the Palestinians live under the Israeli occupation. The actors succeeded very well in using the theater to depict their worn out life in a way where life and death are equal.
64 plays including two Egyptian ones, which did not win any prize, were staged at the festival held between 1-10 September and in which troupes from 30 European and 14 Arab countries participated -- Albawaba.com
