There's a lack of rock voices in the Arab world - the most noted rock band in the ME today is Jadal - but that will soon change!
Rock music lovers in the UAE - and anyone else travelling there from abroad - will be able to learn how to sing like a real-life rock star this summer.
But don't pick up your air guitars just yet boys; this camp is exclusive to girls alone!
‘Rock Camp for Girls’ UAE (RCFG UAE) is a five-day camp that teaches girls how to rock and how to be a rocker, or both.
If your daughter is aged between eight and eighteen, then this is te perfect hangout spot for her this summer!
Who runs the camp – a bunch of UAE-based female rock performers, including Noush Like Sploosh, Fatiniza and Carla Saad, reported Emirates 24/7.
Right in the heart of the camp, young budding female rockers will pick up an instrument, form a band, write an original song and at the end of their journey will perform it in front of friends, family and fans.
This new idea is so exclusive, that only 25 seats are available, according to organisers, who have a pretty professional game-plan.
The schedule? Girls will partake in a series of specialised workshops, including instruction on setting up PA systems, lyric writing, creating fanzines, as well as partaking in self-defence classes and band photo-shoots.
“This is not just a music camp,” said Zahra Soar, Dubai Eye radio presenter and camp founder.
“This is a not-for-profit mentoring program that will empower girls and galvanise them into action. If a student graduates from RCFG UAE with greater confidence to perform, and wants to form her own band, then we have done our job.”
This may be a brand new idea in the Middle East, but it's already quite popular in North America and Europe.
Singer Kate Nash has recently launched an after-school club for girls in the UK, according to Emirates 24/7.
If you can't wait to rock-out, head out to Tone Town Studios, Al Quoz to register. The camp will take place there between 9 am and 2 pm and will run from April 11th.
