New drama 'Al Bahr Wal Atshana' (The Thirsty and the Sea) starring Lebanese singer Rola Saad is said to be on the rocks after Egyptian TV channels have refused to air it.
The drama is critical of the Muslim Brotherhood and includes and corrupt Islamist character who tries to win an election through corrupt means. Rumor has it than after Morsy's election, the drama will be banned.
It's a devastating blow for cast and crew but there may still be hope: writer of the drama, Mohammad Al Ghaiti, said that he does not know for sure if it has been definitely banned or not, especially since it was to be aired exclusively on the Egyptian television channel Nile TV and was not marketed to any other channel.
Al Ghaiti stressed that the drama in no way mocks or criticizes the Muslim Brotherhood or any other Islamic group, and it only displays the character of a corrupt religious man. He added that the drama was written before the Egyptian January 25 Revolution and the aftermath of the revolution is not tackled in any way.
