The Tunisian news agency has reported that seven people were killed and twelve injured during the concert that was held by the Star Academy members, who were the final contestants on the popular program ‘Star Academy” that aired on the Lebanese Broadcasting Company ‘LBC’.
The fatal tragedy occurred as fans stormed the concert area pushing and struggling to watch the performers causing people to fall. Security guards and ambulances that were on standby rushed to save those injured, but to their disappointment casualties had already occurred.
It was reported that over eight thousands people attended the concert. The police began investigating the accident and learned that most of the audience was composed of teenagers who were pushing each other frantically to get a closer look of the performers.
After a competition that lasted for four months, Iraqi contestant Shatha Hassoun won the title of Star Academy 2007. The program is considered to be one of the most popular Reality TV shows in the Arab world.
Shatha is born to an Iraqi father and a Moroccan mother and resides in France. She had received 40 percent of total votes on the final episode of the program the highest score among the remaining three contestants from Lebanon, Egypt and Tunisia.
With her victory Shatha has broken two records the first being the first female to win the title of the program in its three years of running, the second was her ability to bring Iraqis together and vote on a common thing regardless of their religious and beliefs.
The final episode featured special guests’ Lebanese singer Assi Hilani and Moroccan singer Samira Saeed.
