Syrian actress Sulaf Fawakhirji will portray the role of a
village girl in a new Syrian drama titled “Al Masabeeh Al Zurq” (The blue
lanterns). The drama is written by Mahmoud Abd Al Kareem and filming will take
place in the old neighborhoods of Damascus and other touristic locations.

According to the internet website MBC.net, Sulaf revealed
that she plays the role of Randa a simple village girl who falls in love with a
young man and lives a beautiful love story. Sulfa said that story is a romantic
one and the love she has for the one she loves equals the love she has for her
country that is occupied by the French.
Director of the drama Fahed Miri noted that the events of
the drama take place during the 1940s during the occupation of Syria by the
French and tackles the repression and hardships faced by Syrians at the hands
of the French. The drama is scheduled to be aired during the Ramadan season of
2012.
