Over 2,000 filmmakers from all over the world, including Syrians and Palestinians, are competing for slots in the 44th Documentary Film Festival in the German city of Leipzig October 16-21.
The official Kuwaiti news agency, KUNA, quoted the festival's organizing committee as saying that the evaluation committee, including “elite” critics and specialists, must choose only 60 films for the competition.
The festival's awards, the golden and silver dove, bring with them a cash award totaling 60,000 marks.
The organizers said the festival would, for the first time, view documentaries by Syrian and Palestinian participants, whose work focuses on developments in the Palestine cause and Arab politics.
The festival will also screen films on the situation during the last 50 years in China, covering a period spanning the Maoist revolution up to the latest developments there – Albawaba.com
