Media sources have revealed that Egyptian singer Tamer Husni intends on resigning from the entertainment world after serving a one year jail sentence.
Once released, Tamer intends to immigrate to the United States to reside with his father.
Tamer was convicted by a military court and sentenced to a one year prison term along with friend Haitham Shaker for forging official papers to avoid military service. A third accomplice, who actually forged the papers, received a five-year prison term.
According to the London based daily, Alsharq Al Awsat, the courthouse was filled with their family, friends, and fans at the hearing, all praying for the judge’s leniency.
Sources revealed that Tamer’s lawyer intends on appealing the verdict to try and decrease the sentence. The maximum sentence is up to three years for forging official documents.
Tamer was also tried for forging official university diplomas from the universities of Hilwan and Al Mansoura; he was acquitted of the charges.
The singer has asked his fans to pray for him, and for God to alleviate his crisis.
Tamer stated that he did not actually submit the forged legal documents, falsely stating that he had fulfilled his military service.
The singer admits he did obtain the forged documents, but at the last minute decided not to submit them. He claims he was unable to distinguish between the real and forged document, and surreptitiously submitted the wrong set.
Tamer revealed that his ordeal has exhausted him physically and mentally, describing it as the “worst moment” of his entire life.
