Officials at the Egyptian Broadcasting Company have revealed information regarding the wages actors and actresses are receiving for their roles in this Ramadan TV drama line-up, in turn causing for chaos to take place in the acting world. Anger resulted due to the fact that there is no set standard that determines what each actor or actress should be paid.
According to UAE based daily, Al Bayan, Egyptian actress Yusra has ranked number one in being the highest paid actress among all her colleagues. Yusra is receiving a wage of 1 million 250 thousand Egyptian pounds for her role in the Ramadan TV drama series “Malik Rouhi” (King over my Soul). She plays the role of Malak, a businesswoman who discovers some facts and tries to get back money taken from the government.
Elham Shahin demanded one million two hundred thousand Egyptian pounds for her role in the drama “Nigmat Al Jamaheer” (superstar). The drama was a great success among all the Arab countries, leading her to request a raise in her wage to be 1.5 million Egyptian pounds. The actress justified her position by pointing to the fact that the drama achieved more that 15 million pounds in profit. Elham performs the role of a superstar who falls in love with a politician; the relationship is rejected by the whole society. Elham also charged another million for her role in the TV drama “The Emperor” alongside Egyptian actor Hussein Fahmi.
Laila Elwi charged the same amount of money like her colleague Elham for doing the drama “Ta’ala Nihlam Bi Bokra” (Lets Dream of Tomorrow), in which she plays the role of a businesswoman. Elwi has revealed that she is angry over the fact that Egypt’s local television channels are not airing her series during the holly month of Ramadan demanding they it be broadcasted in the soonest time possible.
Nabila Obeid came in third place in being among the highly paid actors, and is receiving one million Egyptian pounds for her role in the TV drama series “Aunt Nour”. When Nabila learnt of the wages her colleagues Yusra and Laila were receiving, she demanded to be given a raise.
Egytpain belly-dancer Fifi Abdo also received one million Egyptian pounds for her role in the drama “Al Hakika wa Al Sarab” (truth and reality), the famous dancer was not angry about her wage, but was furious her series was not broadcasted during Ramadan. The drama is scheduled to be aired on the main Egyptian channel right after the end of the holly month. Abdo plays the role of a businesswoman in a public neighborhood where she sells wooden furniture.
Egyptian actress Mirvat Amin did not comment of charging 900 thousand Egyptian pounds on her role in the drama “Malafat Seriia” (secret files), being content with what she was being paid. Amin plays the role of a shrink who treats celebrities and political figures, all their files were stolen were many complications occur as a result of that. Also Amin charged 800 thousand Egyptian pounds for her role in the drama “Qamar September” (The Moon of September), playing the role of a cultured woman who finds out that her father was killed, after reading a story written by the gardener’s son who saw the incident when he was a small child.
Abla Kamel charged 900 thousand pounds for her role in the drama “Imra’a Ala Had El Sikeen” (A Woman on the Knife’s Edge). Abla is involved in various dramas and charges 10 thousand Egyptian pounds for each episode. Meanwhile Dalal Abdul Aziz comes among the least expensive actresses in Egypt after charging half a million Egyptian pounds for her role in the drama (Kofr Assal). Fardos Abdul Hameed charged 300 thousand for her role in the drama “Zeinat wa Al Banat” (Zeinat and the Girls). Ghada Abdul Raziq charged the same amount of money for her role in the Ramadan TV riddles “Farah Farah” (Joy Joy).
Prominent Egyptian actor Noor Al Sharif is leading the race of who is paid most, by charging 1.5 million Egyptian pounds for his role in the drama “Rajol Al Aqdar” (Man of Destinies), where her plays the role of the Islamic leader Amr Ibn Al Aas. Second place is shared between Hussein Fahmi and Yahia Al Fakharani, both charged 900 thousand pounds net.
Farooq Al Fishawi charged 750 thousand pounds for his role in the drama (Zeinat Wa al Banat), and took the same amount of money for his role in “Canaria Wa Shorakah” (Canaria and co.). Mamdoh Abdul Aziz charged 800 thousand Egyptian pounds for his role in the historic drama (Al Tareq) where he performs the role of the Islamic leader Tareq Bin Ziad. Abul Aziz also charged 600 thousand Egyptian pounds for his role in (abiad X Abiad) white X white.
