Egyptian comedian Younis Shalabi is insistent on coming back to the spotlight in a new play "Ana Al Kifil" (I Am ), despite warning from his doctors. Younis had suffered from a critical health condition last year after a brain seizure which he did not fully recover from and still calls for daily physical therapy.
Younis told the London based daily, Al Sharq Al Awsat, despite warning from his doctors, his mind was made up on taking part in the play and not letting the opportunity pass by. He said that through God's will he will succeed despite his illness and added that he knew working on stage calls for double the efforts needed to act in a film or TV series, but he could not refuse the offer for the play after it was given to him and especially since the theater lacks good scripts these days.
Shalabi added that he is currently undergoing intensive therapy sessions in order to be in perfect health once the play begins. In the play Younis plays the role of a police officer "Kifil" who falls in love with a dancer whose husband he killed during combat with the English in the forties. Wahid Saif, Yousif David, Foad Khalil, and Laila Ilwai are nominated to co-star with Younis including a large number of new faces. The play is written by Hamdi Abdul Ghani and will be directed by Samir Al Asfouri.
The play will mark Shalabi's first appearance in over a year. His last appearance was as guest of honor in the film "Amir Al Thalam" (Prince of Darkness) which costarred Adel Imam and Shireen Saif Nasr El Din. –Albawaba.com
