In celebration of the Iranian New Year ‘Nowrūz’, Eton Institute, the region’s leading language Institute is offering a free course in beginner level Persian/Farsi. The popular learning hub, which teaches over 100 languages, conducts a free language course for the public every month in a featured language as part of its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) mission to promote diversity and appreciation for different cultures.
Dr. Eli Abi Rached, Managing Director of Eton Institute, commented: “It’s a great feeling to be able to speak a new language, but it’s an even nicer feeling to be able to be able to give back to the community and to teach someone a new way to not just speak but think. The free language courses offered at Eton Institute are one of Dubai’s best kept secrets. For those who know, these free courses are a highly anticipated affair each month and have allowed so many individuals to learn a language they have always wanted to.”
Described as a ‘sweet’ language by native speakers, Persian (Farsi) is rapidly growing in demand alongside Arabic by foreign language enthusiasts and students of Middle Eastern and Persian culture. Easy to learn and beautiful to hear, Farsi is one of the oldest and most romantic of the modern languages, lending its lyrical tones to poetry, art, music, and literature, and contributing to dozens of other languages such as Urdu, Arabic and Turkish. Also in demand by Western businesses and governments to communicate with Farsi-speaking countries like Iran and Afghanistan, the ability to converse in Farsi and an understanding of Persian culture and sentiments are much sought after skills.
‘Nowrūz’, the Persian New Year which also marks the first day of spring, is a celebration which dates back over 3,000 years. On this festive day, family members gather around the traditional ‘Haft Seen’ table, which has special traditional food such as apples, wheat and berries which symbolize the seven elements of life, and exchange presents at the exact time attributed to the arrival of spring. It is often believed that whatever a person does on ‘Nowrūz’ will shape the rest of the year; what better way to begin a new year than by developing yourself by learning this beautiful new language.
