Nahlah Kamal, head of Egyptian National Television has banned the new drama series “Samarah,” staring Egyptian actress Ghada Abd Al Raziq and belly dancer/ actress Lucy from being airing during the holy month of Ramadan on any of the national television channels.
An official from Egyptian Television said the drama is unsuitable to be aired during the holy month due to "numerous disrespectful dance scenes." Buying the drama “Samarah”would be a big loss to the station and a big risk, said the official.
Other sources said that the real reason behind the decision is the boycott that is being imposed on artists that opposed the Egyptian January 25 Revolution, which overthrew the government of ousted President Husni Mubarak. Ghada openly supported the former regime.
